| Speaker Kris Neville of Garner told Riceville students about the importance of driving responsibly. Nevill was a victim of a drunk-driving accident several years ago. |
| Riceville sixth-graders learn about drinking and driving The First State Bank, Riceville, sponsored the sixth-grade Adopt-A-Class presentation on March 17, 2009 at the Riceville Community School. Kris Nevill of Garner, who was the survivor of a car accident involving a drunken driver several years ago, was the speaker.
Mrs. Nevill shared with the class the gruesome details of the accident and the events that followed. The drunken driver was killed in the accident; Kris and her sister were hospitalized in critical condition. Over the years, Kris has undergone many surgeries to repair damage to her back and neck. She is still coping with pain related to her injuries. Her life, as well as the lives of the others in the accident, changed in the second it took the drunk driver to swerve and hit her car head-on.
She reminded the student how important it is to drive responsibly. Nevill emphasized the need to wear seatbelts and help friends and family make the right choices regarding drinking and driving. The life saved could be their own or that of a neighbor, family member or friend.
